RAMP Program

ramp 1
We call it a ramp. The resident of this home calls it newfound independence.

Looking at her new ramp, the woman joyfully expressed her appreciation, saying “I am going to test my scooter on my new ramp because now I can get in and out safely by myself!”.

We sometimes do not realize what a barrier one or two steps can be. The lady living in this home uses a motorized scooter. With ramps at most public buildings, offices and shopping areas, she should be able to do the things most of us take for granted. What she could not do was access her own home. She was forced to limit her activities because it was too much of a struggle to maneuver the steps.

She contacted Lighthouse Ministries for assistance. After receiving a referral from her doctor, Lighthouse Ministries RAMP program supplied the materials and Ben Ellisor, a volunteer from Cross and Crown Lutheran Church built the ramp.

Taking a test ride down the ramp on her scooter and knowing that her quality of life was now changed, she smiled and said, “Thank you so much!”

For more information on the RAMP program, contact Ada Antoine, program coordinator.
