“When you go home to your wife and she starts telling you about her day, she doesn’t want you to fix the problem, she just wants you to listen”. During a training session held at Lighthouse Ministries, the speaker David Kahn, offered a scenario that could be used in an office as well as a marital setting. Laughing, a volunteer replied “My wife must have sent you”. David came to Lighthouse Ministries in order to provide the skills necessary for our volunteers and staff to be able to listen more attentively to the participants’ and their needs. These tools will allow us to be more caring and understanding towards our participants. David Kahn, MS, LPC, LPCS is a licensed professional counselor, president and owner of the Counseling Center of Florence. He provided training and hand outs on effective listening for our volunteers and staff, equipping them with the necessary tools to listen to the participants needs when they walk through our doors. Thanks to David for offering his time for this wonderful training.

For 2006 our volunteers, coming from different churches in the community, gave 4,416 hours of their time. This translates into $44,160.00 of in-kind service. Kudos to all our hardworking volunteers!
