BBQ/Chicken Bog Makes a Difference

What do plates of chicken bog and barbeque sold at Lighthouse Ministries’ annual BBQ/Chicken Bog have to do with a family that is about to have their utilities stopped or be evicted from their apartment? If you talk to Ms. Jones and her children they might tell you it means they’ll stay warm when they could have been without heat. Mrs. Thompson, if you see her, can tell you it meant the difference between keeping and losing the grandchildren she was raising alone. Mrs. Ball can tell you plates of chicken bog and barbeque meant the propane truck came to her home and filled her tank just before it was empty. One of the many interviewers at Lighthouse Ministries will tell you a successful sell of chicken bog/BBQ plates means they have additional resources for assisting the families they talk with each week. The board and staff will tell you the plates sold at the annual fundraiser make the light of hope burn brighter at Lighthouse Ministries.

Once again, the community rallied to assist persons struggling to meet their basic needs who seek help at Lighthouse Ministries by supporting the annual fundraiser in March. Individuals, churches, and businesses helped the Board of Directors exceed the goals set for this year’s fundraiser by being sponsors, buying tickets, and volunteering on the day of the event. Over sixteen hundred plates went out from the kitchen at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Noon deliveries went to businesses who had bought ten or more plates, while evening orders went to churches for their Wednesday night Lenten dinners. While volunteers were delivering and handing out pick-up orders, individuals and groups stopped by the church to eat their dinners in the fellowship hall.
