With careful planning and budgeting, Mrs. M. had retired years ago and was managing to pay her bills on time. Recently she had a heart problem and her doctor prescribed a drug not covered on her current Medicare prescription plan. Suddenly her out-of-pocket prescription costs skyrocketed to $600 per month. Now she had to choose between paying the rent and buying her medicine, as do many seniors.
She had lived in her home for many years, always paying the rent on time. When she came to us she was two months behind and facing possible eviction. With nowhere else to turn, she had to ask for help for the first time in her life.
We assisted with her rent and she was able to get her medicine through a local clinic. She was now back on track financially. As she was leaving our office, she hugged the volunteer, and with tears in her eyes she expressed her relief and gratitude that Lighthouse Ministries was there to help her through her crisis.
