RAMP Program

Anne (not her real name) was hospitalized having recently had her leg amputated and was unable to enter her home in her wheelchair. Because her income is very limited, her social worker contacted us for assistance with a ramp to provide access. With materials provided by United Way through Lighthouse Ministries, Ben Ellisor, a volunteer from Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, began constructing the ramp.

Two men who lived nearby, stopped to ask what he was doing. Since they had carpentry experience, they offered to help. With extra help, the ramp was finished before noon. Anne’s daughter was delighted that they had finished so quickly since her mother was being discharged from the hospital that same day at 1 o’clock and she did not know how she would have gotten her into the house. She told the workers, “This is a blessing. She will be able to use the ramp when she comes home today”.
