Nine year old boy turns down toy,

asks for vegetables instead.

food bankThis is a headline you probably thought you would never see. Ty, came to Lighthouse Ministries with his disabled grandmother and quietly and gently assisted her with the information asked in a lengthy interview. When finished, the Participant Advocate commended Ty for his attentiveness and asked if he would like to select a toy or book to take home. His answer, “No, ma’am. If you have any vegetables, I would like some so that I can make my grandmamma some soup”. Because we have a small emergency food pantry, we were able to fulfill his wish for vegetables. He also went home with a toy.

Those of us who have a well-stocked pantry have a hard time understanding a nine-year-old child daring to ask for vegetables so they can eat. With your help keeping our pantry shelves filled, we will be able to continue to provide for the hungry.

We are always in need of these food items: canned meat or fish, canned fruits and vegetables, dried or canned soups, pastas, spaghetti sauce, beef stew, pork and beans, peanut butter, jelly, rice, grits and any other non perishable foods, especially those with pop-tops. When the stores have buy one, get one free, won’t you donate the free one for a neighbor who has none? Ty, the boy who received vegetables for soup, joins us in thanking you.
