Celebration of Light 2008

And a good time was had by all!

September 7, 2008 was a sunny, warm day. Perfect for our Celebration of Light. First Presbyterian Church once again donated their facility for our annual community church festival to celebrate and thank all the local faith communities and individuals who give so much of their financial resources and energy to keep the doors of this ministry open.

It was a fun filled afternoon with lots of activities, good food, entertainment and prizes.

Choir performances were given by First Presbyterian and John Calvin Presbyterian adult choirs and Pisgah UMC Children’s Choir. The adult choirs were excellent, but the children stole the show. Outside, children enjoyed a Space Walk, face painting, make-a-button, cotton candy, and the incredible, unique balloon creations by Tim Fisher. The Florence Area Humane Society came with adorable puppies and, as always, drew a crowd.

The ice cream churn-off was, again, a big hit. Bragging rights and a trophy were taken home, for the third year in a row, by Pisgah UMC. Elim Baptist, Cumberland United Methodist, John Calvin Presbyterian and Cross and Crown Lutheran all had superb ice creams. Votes for the best ice cream came from the amount of money collected at each table.

Free hot dogs, chips and drinks were available. Door prizes, too numerous to list, were donated. Everything from children’s toys, to coveted football ticket packages including parking, were given away.

To those who could not make it this year, we missed you and hope to see you next year. Start working on those ice cream recipes and decorations and see if your church can take the trophy next year.

Thank you to First Presbyterian Church, and our sponsors, Pepsi, LogoWear and High Hill Quick Fill.
