First Friday Homeless Connect Event
The First Friday Homeless Connect Event was started in February of this year to help those who are homeless get connected to area services to improve their situation. Susan Firimonte, an attorney with South Carolina Legal Services, had the idea of having one centrally located place where homeless people can come for various kinds of help. A partnership with Lighthouse Ministries, with other Florence services invited to participate, was the perfect solution. Some participating organizations, in addition to SC Legal Services and Lighthouse Ministries are the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, the Pee Dee Area Veterans Advisory Council, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Goodwill, Florence County Veterans Administration, the Florence County Solicitor, and the Benefit Bank of S.C.
At this event, homeless people get free legal help with civil and criminal matters or cleaning up a criminal record, food, clothing vouchers and hygiene items. Also help with VA claims, assessments for alcohol, drug or psychological problems, help finding work, filing Social Security Disability claims, getting I.D. replaced, filing for food stamps and other benefits, and referrals to appropriate agencies.
Donations of hygiene items are needed. Full size or personal size items are put into kits and given to those in need. This is the perfect place to donate the unused travel size personal care items you brought home from the motel. Simply drop them off at our office.
This event is held the first Friday of each month from 9 am to 12 noon at Lighthouse Ministries; however, due to holidays some dates may change.
COME SEE US!
Are you wondering what it is that we do?

Lighthouse Ministries conducts tours of our office the third Thursday of each month. You are welcome to come and see how we serve the community. Tours start at 12 noon, last approximately one hour and include lunch provided by The Methodist Manor of The PeeDee.
We invite you to attend to see firsthand what we do here in our community. There is no charge but we do ask you to register. Lunch is provided by the Methodist Manor and we promise to limit it to one hour. This is an informative tour, not a solicitation for donations. We would love to have you.
